What you get

Open-source code editor with a hosted AI agent: a 14-day Pro trial with $5 of model usage and unlimited edit predictions, no card, plus a separate year of free Student access for verified university students

Free models

The free offer is a budget for model usage across the catalog. See Limits for its conditions and Connect for API details, where available.

Limits, in the vendor’s words

Shared Zed and Delta trial: $5 once per account (Valid for 14 days)

14-day trial: Unmetered edit predictions per account

Verified student plan: $10/month; Unmetered edit predictions per account (Free for one year to verified university students)

No card for the trial. GPT-6 Luna is the only hosted model during the trial, and the shared Zed/Delta trial ends when the credit or time runs out, whichever comes first. It then converts to Free, which uses your own API keys or external agents. The docs say “Zed’s hosted models and edit predictions require a Pro subscription.” Verified university students receive a separate year of free Student access. Token credit is a spending wallet at hosted-model prices, not a list of individually zero-priced models.

Where it is offered

The vendor names no country it keeps the offer from (source, read 2026-09-26).

What happens to what you send

What you send is not used to train models. In the vendor’s words: “Zed does not retain your prompts or code context by default. For Zed-hosted models, Zed has no-training commitments from model providers … Zed only retains AI data when you explicitly share feedback or opt in to training data collection.” (source).
